UPA government responsible for increase in price rise and inflation
Patna, Jun 27 (UNI) The BJP today alleged that the rising prices and inflation rate in the country were the results of flawed policy being pursued by Dr Manmohan Singh-led UPA government at the Centre.
National spokesman of the party and newly elected member to Rajya Sabha Rajeev Pratap Rudi told newspersons here that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was Finance Minister during the tenure of Narsimha Rao government at the Centre.
He pointed out that when Mr Singh was Finance Minister during the Narsimha Rao government, the inflation rate was 10.75 per cent and it increased to 11.45 per cent when Mr Singh himself was at the helm of the affairs.
'' The inflation rate has reached the double digit figure when the hike in petrol and diesel price was announced by the UPA government, but the Centre refused to accept the reality at that time, '' Mr Rudi said.
'' On the one hand, Finance Minister P Chidambram claims to raise huge revenue for the government, while on the other hand the Agriculture Minister has never failed to state that there is no foodgrain shortage in the country, '' the BJP spokesman said and put a poser to the Centre to explain what was the reason behind the steep price hike.
Mr Rudy rubbished the claim of the Centre that price rise was the effect of international situation and affirmed that failure of the UPA government in taking appropriate measures was the root cause behind such scenario prevailing in the country.
