UP reeling under heavy rainfall

Lucknow, June 27 (UNI) The Flood havoc continued to loom large on several districts of Uttar Pradesh, following incessant rainfall that made several big and small rivers turgid.

As per the reports, over six dams in Poorvanchal were facing danger due to swelling of Rapti, Gandhak, Ghagra and Budhi rivers.

Hundreds of villages in Deoaria, Gonda, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Faizabad and Mau districts were also affected by the flood.

Central Water Commission (CWC) reports have confirmed that several rivers, including Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghaghra, Rapti, Gomti, Ramganga and Ganghak, were swelling last however they were below the danger mark.

According to Met department, several districts in the state received intense rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Paliyakala and Varanasi witessed 5 cm rainfall each, Neemsar and Dabri, 3 cm each, Bansi, 2 cm, while Chhatnag, Kartniyaghat and Balrampur recorded one cm rainfall each.

Meanwhile, the weatherman forecast light to moderate rainfall in most of the districts in the next 24 hours, while heavy rainfall was predicted for some isolated places in the next 48 hours.
