Sam Manekshaw passes away
Wellington, Tamil Nadu, June 27 (UNI) Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the hero of the 1971 Indo-Pak war which led to the liberation of Bangladesh, passed away at the Military Hospital here, early today.
''The end came at 0030 hours,'' military hospital sources here said.
He was 94. He is survived by his two daughters and grandchildren.
The Field Marshal had developed Acute Bronchopneumonia with associated complications and his condition had been serious for the past four days.
He was treated at the Intensive Care Unit by doctors of the military hospital, assisted by a Pulmonologist from Army Hospital (R and R), New Delhi.
The last rites of the Field Marshal would be performed in Udhagamandalam with full military honours, Defence sources said.
