Police arrest journalists during CM programme
Tirupati, June 27 (UNI) In yet another incident, police arrested 25 journalists during Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajashekara Reddy's visit here to participate in a programme today.
Police suspected that the media persons would detain the Chief Minister's convoy in protest against the recent arrest of a Telugu Daily ''Andhra Jyothi'''s editor and two contributors in Hyderabad. They were held as a precautionary measure.
The media persons, including print and electronic, were arrested when they were waiting in front of a marriage function hall before the Chief Minister's arrival to attended a marriage.
The arrested journalists were taken to Tiruchanoor police station.
However, they were not released even after the Chief Minister left, leading to protest by journalists, political leaders except the Congress, the ''madiga'' community and Dalit leaders. They demanded immediate release of the arrested mediapersons.
