Inflation spirals to 11.42%

New Delhi, Jun 27 (UNI) The headline inflation rate for the week ended June 14 soared to 11.42 per cent as compared to 11.05 per cent for the previous week.

Inflation for the week ended April 19 was revised to 8.23 per cent from 7.57 per cent.

The annual inflation rate was 4.13 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) data showed here.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for 'All Commodities' for the week ended June 14 rose by 0.4 per cent to 236.1 (Provisional) from 235.2 (Provisional) for the previous week.

The index for 'Primary Articles' group rose by 0.2 per cent to 243.0 (Provisional) from 242.5 (Provisional) for the previous week.

The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.2 per cent to 232.1 (Provisional) from 231.6 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of tea (three per cent), fish-marine, milk and maize (one per cent each).

However, the prices of masur and fruits and vegetables (one per cent each) declined.

The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group declined by 0.5 per cent to 238.0 (Provisional) from 239.2 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of linseed (three per cent) and groundnut seed and raw cotton (two per cent) each.

However, the prices of niger seed (two per cent) and skins (raw), rape and mustard seed, raw rubber and raw silk (one per cent) moved up.

The index for 'Minerals' group rose by 3.6 per cent to 652.6 (Provisional) from 630.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of metallic minerals (four per cent).

The index for 'Fuel, Power, Light and Lubricants' group rose by 0.1 per cent to 374.7 (Provisional) from 374.2 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of lubricants (19 per cent).
