ICAI celebrates diamond jubilee celebrations

New Delhi, Jun 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram will address a function to mark the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in July .

On the occasion, a special cover will be released by the Department of Posts. Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan will be among the guests present.

A comprehensive programme spanning over five days has been planned in Delhi starting from June 29 to celebrate the institute's diamond jubilee year.

The events scheduled include a marathon run from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, lecture on yoga by Baba Ramdev Swami, health checkup and blood donation camp, workshop on "Motivation - key to success" by Shiv Khera on July 1 in addition to tree sapling programme, dance performance by Hema Malini, film actress and classical dancer along with her troupe and songs by Shreya Ghosal.

A conference on the theme "Chartered Accountancy Profession in Retrospect and Prospect" will be also held.

Set up through a legislative fiat, it has grown in strength from a mere 1,700 chartered accountants in 1949 to 145,000 CAs, making it the seconnd largest accounting body in the world. Globally recognised for its high standards, the institute has come a long way from 257 students enrolled in the Institute in 1949 to as many as 350,000 students on the rolls today.

At present, the institute has 5 regional councils, 117 branches, 39 central level committees. Many Indian CAs are working abroad supported by 20 chapters overseas.
