ESIC to issue ID cards directly to employees

Puducherry, Jun 27: To ensure that the benefits reach genuine end users, the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has decided to issue ID cards (both temporary and permanent) directly to eligible employees, with effect from July one.

ESIC Regional Director Padmaja Nambiar, in a release here today, said this initiative had been taken to ensure that the stakeholders got the benefits at the earliest on completion of the registration process. The common practice so far had been to issue the ID cards through the employer.

Every new employee of an establishment under ESI purview would be issued a temporary ID card after signing a declaration with personal details of family members, to avail the benefits immediately. A permanent ID card would be issued after the employee completed three months of service in the organisation, she said.

Ms Nambiar said in case of any new company or organisation coming under the ESI scheme, the Branch Manager of the jurisdictional ESIC would personally visit the office premises to collect the declaration and issue ID card directly to the employees.

For those employees subsequently joining the factory or organisation, it would be sent by registered post to their declared residential address.
