Amarnath agitation: Cong calls for communal harmony
New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) The Congress today asked the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain communal harmony and desist from violence over the Amarnath land transfer issue.
''Nobody should do anything to flare up violence.... Communal harmony and brotherhood should be maintained,'' Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said.
He expressed the hope that the State Government would take neccessary steps to defuse the crisis.
Four people have been killed and more than 300 injured in the Kashmir Valley in violence and protests against the controversial allotment of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
The authorities have suspended the Amarnath yatra as a precautionary measure.
