Two liquor contractors injured in shootout in Punjab

Sangrur, June 26 (UNI) Two liquor contrators sustained injuries when they were fired upon by a rival group in Cheema Mandi village in the district today, police here said.

According to the police, the firing took place following objections raised by two contrators who owned liquor vends in the urban areas of the district. The contractors objected to the sale of liquor bottles below the maximum retail price by the lobby that owned vends in the rural areas.

Bhim Singh a member of the rural liquor lobby took out his licensed revolver and fired at Ram Singh and Gora Singh, members of the urban lobby. Both the contractors were seriously injured in the firing and were rushed to the civil hospital at Sunam from where they were refered to the Rajindera Hospital in Patiala.

The police has registered a criminal case against Bhim Singh and other members of his lobby. No arrests had been made so far.
