Scribes arrested; all Oppn parties take part in protest rally
Hyderabad, Jun 26 (UNI) More than 30 journalists were arrested when they were participating in a 'People's protest rally' against the arrest of 'Andhra Jyothi' Telugu daily Editor K Srinivas and two contributors under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the city today.
As soon as the procession started from Basheerbagh Press club for its destination Public Gardens, police entered the scene and took the scribes under preventive custody.
CPI(M) State Secretary B V Raghavulu, CPI State Secretary K Narayana, senior TDP leader T Srinivas Yadav and senior TRS leader N Narasimha Reddy participated in the protest rally and expressed solidarity with the arrested journalists, demanding that the Government restore 'freedom of press' in the State by releasing them.
When the procession reached the police control room, police prevented them from proceeding towards Public Gardens and arrested the agitators.
