Rajya Sabha poll held in Nagaland

Kohima, Jun 26 (UNI) The election for the lone Rajya Sabha seat of the state, which began at the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat here at 0900 hours this morning, ended at 1130 hours when all the 60 Legislators cast their votes.

Assembly Secretariat sources said all the 60 members of the Assembly had cast their votes and now the Assembly Secretary, who is the Returning Officer of the election, would seek permission from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to count the votes.

After the counting, the result will be sent to the ECI and the Secretary of the Rajya Sabha and only after receiving clearance from them, the Returning Officer will declare the result on their behalf, which is expected by this evening.

The election for the seat is a direct fight between consensus candidate of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Khekiho Zhimomi and Congress candidate Kewekhape Therie.
