President condoles Banatwala's demise

New Delhi, Jun 26 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today condoled the death of Indian Union Muslim League president Gulam Mehmood Banatwala, describing him as an eminent public figure.

''Shri Banatwala was an eminent statesman who stood by the under privileged. His popularity was reflected in his being elected a Member of Parliament seven times,'' the President said in a message.

Banatwala, a former member of the Lok Sabha, died in a private hospital in Mumbai yesterday following a massive heart attack.
