Petition filed in HC for making available ordinary petrol

Chennai, Jun 26 (UNI) An AIADMK advocate today moved Madras High Court, seeking direction to the Union government to ensure adequate supply of ordinary petrol and diesel to dealers and the public forthwith.

The petitioner R Balasubramanian submitted that during the past four years, the Centre had effected a steep hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG without any valid reason and claiming that the price of crude oil in the global market had gone up.

''After hiking the price of diesel and petrol, the public sector oil companies were selling the same ordinary petrol and diesel as premium branded fuels for a higher rate,'' the petitioner added.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow.
