Kalam backs Indo-US Nuke deal
Bangalore, Jun 26: The former President A P J Abdul Kalam has stated that the nuclear deal with the US will prove beneficial to India. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a conference on International Aero Space here today Kalam said that it was crucial for India to sign the deal with the US.
"Until the time that our scientists produce thorium-based nuclear reactors from our thorium deposits which are second largest in the world, we will require uranium to sustain our energy requirements for which the deal will be important to us," he said.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by Dr Manmohan Singh is facing the left's wrath on nuclear deal and Dr Kalam's support for nuclear deal assumes significance.
Dr Kalam also mentioned that the requirement of helium for power generation and the importance of Chandrayaan mission to be a success, India must maintain goodwill on the global scenario.
"Well I told you moon is an inter-mediatory platform between the Earth and the Mars. Mars has many important messages to give as it may have water. Moon has H3 and helium is an important material for power generation so we have tremendous potential. That's why Chandrayana is so important. India is nuclear weapon state so it should have the capacity that we need uranium till our thorium nuclear reactors come in. So this pact will help," said Dr Kalam.
