Fire rages in a building

Barasat, Jun 26 (UNI) A devastating fire raged in the first floor of a commercial-cum-residential building near a flyover here in North 24 Paraganas today.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.

Incidentally, the owner of the building, a photographer of Bartaman--a regional daily Kumar Mukerjee and the members of his family were rescued by the locals.

Fire brigade sources said even after an hour the fire is yet to be extinguished.

The cause of the fire and the extent of loss has not been ascertained yet.
