Cabinet approves 2 schools of Planning and Architecture

New Delhi, Jun 26 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved setting up of two schools of Planning and Architecture at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, and Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh.

Along with this, the Cabinet also gave approval for creation of four core posts of Director and Registrar for each institute with immediate effect.

The total cost of the two projects would be Rs 348.50 Crore, and they would be completed by 2012-13, Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chauhan told mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting.

The institutes would impart graduate, post-graduate, doctral and post-doctral education in architecture and town planning while at the same time fostering research of a higher order in these areas.

They will also create a cadre of high faculty members who will be devoted to teaching, reasearch and consultancy in all related disciplines.

The schools will be socially responsible institutions providing research feedback to the Government for physical development of human settlements, the Minister said.
