UPA diverts attention from prices by discussing N-deal:BJP
New Delhi, Jun 25 (UNI) The BJP today accused the Congress and Left parties of raking up the Indo-US nuclear deal in an attempt to divert people's attention from burning issues like price rise, inflation and shortage of food and fertilisers.
Commenting on the developments and the meeting of the Congress and Left parties on the nuclear deal, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said prices of essential items were piercing the skies and the Congress and Left leaders were discussing the nuclear issue to divert the nation's attention.
The Left parties were equally responsible for the present state of affairs as they were all along supporting the UPA government from outside, he said.
He also took exception to the Left parties linking a diplomatic and international issue like nuclear deal with Islam. ''It is highly objectionable and condemnable to threaten the Samajwadi Party that it would lose the Muslim support if they were to support nuclear deal,'' Mr Naidu said.
Like all other community, a section of the Muslims might oppose the deal but the nationalist and patriotic sections were not against the deal or the United States, he remarked.
Mr Naidu disagreed with the assessments of Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Commerce Minister Kamal Nath that inflation and price rice were global phenomena. If one were to accept these claims than how were the economies of Japan, Canada, Britain, Germany, Italy and even a developing country Malaysia able to contain the inflation around three per cent? he asked.
