TDP condemns Telugu daily Editor's arrest
Hyderabad, June 25 (UNI) The main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today condemned the arrest of Telugu daily 'Andhra Jyothi' Editor K Srinivas along with two of its reporters last night.
Terming the midnight arrest as ''undemocratic'', TDP Spokesman M V Mysoora Reddy, MP, told mediapersons here that the Congress Government had been allegedly acting with ''vengeance'' against the daily from the beginning for ''exposing the failures'' of the State Government on various issues.
Unable to bear criticism of its functioning by the media, which played the note of a in watchdog role in a democracy, the Government had issued a ''media watch circular'' and withdrew the same after protests from journalists and political parties, he claimed.
Mr Reddy, who called on Mr Srinivas in the Chenchalguda prison, said Mr Srinivas, who had been taking up the cause of Dalits, felt bad that a case had been foisted on him and two other journalists.
