Bhopal, Jun 25 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said an inquiry would be held into false criminal cases registered against people during emergency so that true 'guards of democracy' could benefit from the Loknayak Jayprakash Samman Nidhi.

He was addressing a function organised at his residence to honour those detained under Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and Defence of India Rules (DIR) during emergency.

Terming MISA detenus as ''Loktantra Ka Prahari'' (guards of democracy), Mr Chouhan honoured about 24 MISA detainees, including BJP leaders Sunderlal Patwa, Kailash Joshi, Kailash Sarang and Sabita Vajpayee.

About 2,200 MISA detenus across the state would be felicitated.

They would be entitled for monthly honorarium of Rs 6000 for those jailed for more than six months and Rs 3000 to those who were in jail for less than six months.

''The state government would probe into fake criminal cases and ensure that those with criminal background were not benefitted with the Samman Nidhi,'' he said, adding district-level nodal officers had been appointed to scrutinise the cases and ensure the honorarium to genuine MISA detenus.
