Prez Patil to launch E-passport scheme on June 25
{image-pratibha patil_oo12346too_25062008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Jun 25: On Wednesday, June 25, President Pratibha Patil will launch the E-passport scheme in New Delhi. The E-passport, also called biometric passports, will carry a chip that will have entire personal information, including fingerprints, of the holder in a chip.
These passports will initially be launched for diplomats and high-ranking government and will gradually be rolled on for the 'aam aadmi". The E-passport will carry the biological features and facial imprints of a holder and will be at par with international civil aviation standards. The step is aimed at curbing misuse of passport, including through impersonation and make immigration process easier.
