Nepal Govt to introduce Fifth Amendment proposal today
Kathmandu, June 25 : The Nepal Government will introduce the Fifth Amendment of the interim Constitution at a meeting of the Council of Ministers today. The Fifth Amendment will allow the formation of the government through a simple majority. It will also allow the Constituent Assembly (CA) to a elect president and vice president through simple majority, Nepalnews reported..
The amendment will also delete references to the Seven Parties Alliance (SPA) and the name of their interim parliamentarians.
On Tuesday, the SPA reached a seven-point understanding on the implementation of a peace pact to take the process for peace to its logical conclusion.
The parties agreed to complete the integration of Maoist combatants within six months. They also agreed that the criteria of security bodies of the state would have to be met when integrating Maoist combatants.
On what the mandate of UNMIN would be, the parties agreed to limit its role to that of monitoring the management of arms and combatants.
