Nagaland Rajya Sabha poll to be held tomorrow

Kohima, Jun 25 (UNI) The crucial election for the lone Rajya Sabha seat will be held at the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat tomorrow with a direct fight between the candidates of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) and Congress.

The election for the Rajya Sabha seat will begin at 0900 hours tomorrow, where the members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly will cast their votes for DAN consensus candidate Khekiho Zhimomi and Congress candidate Kewekhape Therie.

Mr Zhimomi is a nominee of the Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF), the major alliance partner of the DAN, while Congress has fielded Mr Therie.

At present Nagaland Assembly has 26 NPF, two each from NCP and BJP and six Independent Members, while the Congress has 23 Members and one neutral Independent Legislator.

While NPF President Shurhozelie has claimed that Mr Zhimomi will get all the 36 votes of the DAN alliance, Mr Therie is banking upon the votes of the NCP, BJP and the Independent Members.
