Military aid to Pak to be closely scrutinised at Capitol Hill

Washington, June 25 : The US Congress is set this week to closely scrutinise the military assistance and compensation which it has been giving to Pakistan over the years in return to its support to the US-led global war on terror.

Two Congressional committee hearings are scheduled to take place later this week, one in the House and the other in the Senate, which would discuss threadbare the US' assistance to Islamabad, reported the Daily Times.

The US Senate hearing taking place today by the Committee on Foreign Relations will feature testimony by Richard Boucher, James J Shinn, assistant secretary of defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, Mark Ward, USAID's senior deputy assistant administrator for Asia, Anthony C Zinni, former CENTCOM commander, and Wendy Chamberlain, president of the Middle East Institute.

The hearing in the House of Commons will take place later in the week.
