Kerala Govt to take stringent steps against drunken driving
Thiruvananthapuram, June 25 (UNI) The Kerala Government is contemplating to introduce stringent measures against drunken drivers, including imprisonment on the lines of Mumbai, Transport Minister Mathew T Thomas told the State Assembly today.
Replying to questions by Mr K P Mohanan of Janata Dal and others, he said though the government had succeeded in bringing down the number of accidents in the state the number of causalties had increased.
Stating that violation of traffic rules were the main reason for increasing accidents, Mr Thomas said instructions had been issued to all concerned to take stern action against traffic violators.
Of the total number of accidents taking place in the country, Kerala's share was 10 per cent, he said adding that in last four months 1,312 people were killed involving 15,953 accidents.
