Govt to introduce insurance scheme for all
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 25: The Kerala Government will introduce a new insurance scheme for all, including Above Poverty Level (APL) families, Local Self Government Minister Paloli Mohammed informed the State Assembly today.
Replying to questions by Mr K C Joseph (Cong) and others, he said the Cabinet had given its approval and an open tender would be invited soon to decide upon the insurance firm.
Explaining the details of the insurance scheme, Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac said it would be implemented by the Labour Department in cooperation with the Health and Local Self Government departments.
Though no decision had been taken to implement the Health Insurance scheme through the three-tier panchayats by the Local Self Government, a new scheme ''Rashtriya Swasthya Bhima Yojana'' was implemented through the Labour Department in Kollam and Alappuzha districts, he said, adding the government was taking steps to introduce the system in all districts of the state.
Mr Kutty alleged that the insurance scheme introduced by the previous Congress-led United Democratic Front Government had lapsed.
