Mumbai, Jun 25 (UNI) President of the Indian Union Muslim League Gulam Mehmood Banatwala, former member of the lok sabha, died here today in a private hospital following a massive heart attack.
The veteran muslim league leader who arrived here from Chennai yesterday complained of chest pain in the afternoon and breathed his last at a private hospital.
Mr Banatwala, who was born on August 15,1933 was a senior parliamentarian having won seven terms to the lok sabha from Ponnani in Malappuram District of Kerala.
75 year old Banatwala had started his political career in Muslim league.
He was the member of Maharashtra Assembly representing Umarkhadii counstitency of Mumbai, since 1967 before he moved to the Lok Sabha from Ponnani in 1977 and won seven terms till 1999..
A good orator Banatwala is survived by three brothers. His wife had expired few years back and he had no children.
According to the family sources the funeral would take place tomorrow morning. Minister of State for external affairs E Ahmed is expected to attend the cremation, the sources said.
