Expressway blocked to protest illicit liquor trade
Barrackpore, Jun 25 (UNI) An irate mob of local people today blocked the busy Sodepur-Kalyani Expressway for a few hours near Ruia Majherpara under Khardah police station in North 24 Parganas to protest the alleged police inaction against illicit liquor trade.
Official sources said police reinforcement with deployment of Rapid Action Force (RAF) managed to lift the blockade. However, the angry public prevented police from removing a body that was recovered from a roadside ditch.
Earlier, local people found the body of Dukhiram Paswan (41) in the ditch early this morning and informed the local police station.
Local people alleged that Paswan might have drowned in the ditch after consuming illicit liquor.
They also alleged that the illicit liquor trade in the area had not only been encouraging anti-social activities but also claimed many lives.
