Caste validation certificate must for filing nomination
Mumbai, Jun 25 (UNI) The Maharashtra Cabinet today decided to amend the law to make it mandatory to produce the caste validitation certificate at the time of filing of nomination for the elections.
The Maharashtra State Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act of 1961 would suitably be modified. The present amendment would bring Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Smities on par with urban counterparts.
A similar amendment was made for Municipal Council and Corporation elections, an official release said here.
In another decision, the state Cabinet has decided to appoint officers of the rank of Additional Collectors as full time heads of the caste validitaiton committees.
At present, revenue division commissioners are heading these committees at divisional levels. By appointing full time Chairman of these committees, the government hopes to expedite the process of caste certificate validitation. All SC, ST and OBC candidates are required to get their caste certificates validated before they can claim any benefit pertaining to their particular caste, the release added.
