16 children rescued in Mumbai
Mumbai, Jun 25 (UNI) City police today rescued 16 children, who were forced to work as labourers, and arrested seven people, who had employed them, in Nagpada area in South Central Mumbai.
Officials from Nagpada police station and labour department of Maharashtra government conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off.
Police Inspector I S Lakhi from Nagpada police station told mediapersons ''the children will be sent to remand home and the employers will be acted upon as per the law.'' He added that the employers have been arrested under section 733 of Indian Penal Code.
Interestingly, all the children were rescued from hotels, where they were doing odd jobs.
