Mob turn violent, disrupts traffic in Phillaur
Phillaur, Jun 24: Hundreds of irate villagers disrupted vehicular traffic for two hours and held a noisy demonstration to protest the death of a motorcyclist who was hit by speeding bus near Maowal village on the Phillaur-Bilga road early today.
The villagers also ransacked a mini bus and broke its windowpanes to protest death of the motorcyclist.
The deceased, identified as Lakhwinder alias Lally of Mao sahib, was returning to his village, when the speeding bus coming from Talwan hit him. The motorcyclist died on the spot.
His body has been handed over to his family members after a post-mortem in the Phillaur Civil Hospital.
Bus driver Nikka, blind in one eye and the conductor managed to escape leaving behind the bus, which was later damaged by the mob.
Passengers, however, saved themselves from the furious mob by jumping out of the bus.
Police has reached the spot and registered a case in this connection.
