Villagers block traffic after death of a youth in road mishap

Phillaur, Jun 24 (UNI) Hundreds of irate villagers blocked vehicular traffic for two hours, held noisy demonstration, ransacked a mini bus and broke its windowpanes in protest against the killing of a motorcyclist near Maowal village on the Phillaur-Bilga Road this morning.

The motorcyclist, identified as Lakhwinder alias Lally of Mao sahib, was returning to his village when the speeding bus coming from Talwan hit him. The motorcyclist died on the spot. His body has been handed over to his family members after a postmortem examination in the Phillaur Civil Hospital.

Bus driver Nikka, blind by one eye, and the conductor managed to escape leaving behind the bus which was damaged by irate mob.

Passengers, however, saved themselves from the anger of mob by jumping out from the bus.

Police has reached the spot and registered a case in this connection.
