'Take steps to construct houses'

Puducherry, Jun 24: The Movement to protect the interest of roofless people in the Union Territory today urged the administration to take immediate steps to construct houses for them.

Addressing a press conference here today, Movement General Secretary Mr Motilal said 75 per cent of the 11 lakh population in the Union Territory were labourers. Many of them were living in streets, huts and single rooms without drinking water and toilet facilities.

To highlight their plight, the Movement would organise a meeting here on June 29, which would be addressed by CPI(ML) State Secretary Balasubramanian, among others.
