PM Koirala meets army chief
Kathmandu, June 24 : Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Rookmangad Katawal in Baluwatar on Monday.
The meeting between General Katawal and PM Koirala has comes in the wake of CPN- Maoist's refusal on the Nepali Congress's proposal to include the opposition party members and CoAS in the Security Council.
During a meeting, Katawal is learnt to have expressed his concern over the problems that might crop up in the issue of army integration in the absence of PM Koirala
Earlier, the long-standing political negotiations had collapsed after the Maoists said induction of an opposition leader in the Security Council would create further security complications.
The Nepali Congress has claimed that this provision can help maintain consensus in making major security decisions.
The formation of a new government has been delayed as the major political parties have locked horns over power-sharing, resettlement of Maoist combatants and the correct model of the future government among other political issue.
According to latest amendment in the interim constitution, the Nepali Army would remain under the control of the president, Nepalnews reported.
