PCI urges admn to ensure proper power supply
Puducherry, June 24 (UNI) The Pondicherry Chamber of Industries (PCI) today urged the Puducherry administration to ensure proper power supply to the Mettuppalayam industrial estate to run the industrial units there.
In a statement here, PCI President Kanagasabapathy and Secretary Thirumal said due to frequent power cuts, the industrial estate could not run properly.
There were 200 small industrial units and eight medium units in the estate, providing direct employment to 6,000 and indirect employment to 3,000 people.
Presently, the industrial units were getting power supply for only 288 hours in a month in place of 720 hours, which had never happened in the past 30 years.
Stating that this would lead to the closure of the industrial units and workers losing jobs, they urged the administration to take immediate steps in this regard.
