One more person dies of Chikungunya
Mangalore, Jun 24 (UNI) With one more death today, the toll from Chikungunya rose to five in Sullya Taluk and 26 in Daxina Kannada.
Forty-five-year-old Aboobbakar from Adka Village near Ajjavara in Sullya, who was suffering from high fever and joint pains, the main symptoms of Chikungunya, since last few days died today.
Yesterday, four persons, including two women died of suspected Chikungunya in Sullya Taluk -one each in Adyadka, Bellare, Sampaje (on the border of Madikeri-Sullya) and Gundadka.
However, District Health Officer Jagannath claimed it had not been confirmed the deaths were due to Chikungunya.
The blood samples of 13 victims had been sent for testing and the results yet to be received. Normally, Chikungunya did not cause deaths, he claimed.
Meanwhile, rat fever was also reported in some areas of Sullya.
A person died yesterday due to severe fever in a private hospital.
The doctor suspected rat fever to have caused the death.
