Minister urges for all-party delegation to Centre
Bangalore, June 24 (UNI) Karnataka Energy Minister K S Eshwarappa today urged the Government to lead an all-party delegation to the Centre to seek immediate supply of fertilisers for farmers in the State.
Mr Eshwarappa, intervening during a discussion in the Legislative Assembly on the farm crisis, said the State Government had earlier led a delegation, headed by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, for supply of fertilisers in view of the shortage and the Prime Minister had promised to supply 1.40 lakh mt of fertilisers before June 20.
He pointed out that the State Government had not yet received the full quantum and hence there was a need to take a delegation again to the Centre.
''The problems of farmers could be solved only after the full supply of fertilisers by the Centre comes to the State,'' he said.
Former Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur urged the Government to simplify distribution of seeds and called for a special session for discussiing issues related to farmers to find a long-term solution.
Other members urged the Government not to politicise the suicides by farmers due to shortage of fertilisers and seeds, but make proper arrangements for the payment of compensation immediately.
