Humid weather conditions prevail in North-West region

Chandigarh, Jun 24 (UNI) Humid weather conditions prevailed in the plains following rain at isolated places, dipping temperatures across the north-west region today.

With higher levels of humidity, people groaned under hot and humid weather conditions even as the maximum temperatures plummeted three degrees to seven degrees celsius in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

In Punjab, Patiala with 95 per cent humidity sizzled under sultry weather even as moderate rain lashed the town overnight. The town, where the maximum temperature settled at 32.7 degrees celsius, seven degrees below normal, recorded 33.5 mm rainfall till this morning.

The maximum temperature also dipped at Amritsar and Ludhiana, respectively recording 35.5 degrees and 34.4 degrees celsius which were five degrees to six degrees below normal.

Hissar with 37.4 degrees continued to be hottest place in Haryana. The maximum, however, settled at 34.1 degrees at Ambala and 35.2 degrees at Karnal, which were four degrees below normal.

The maximum temperatures also dropped in Himachal Pradesh where some areas experienced rain. Una in lower hills was the hottest place in the state, recording the maximum temperature at 35.0 degrees celsius, followed by Bhuntar registering 34.4 degrees, Sundernagar 32.6 degrees, Dharamsala 28.2 degrees and Shimla 23.8 degrees celsius.

Humid conditions also prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas. The city recorded humidity at 80 per cent and the maximum temperature at 36.4 degrees celsius.

The Weather Office here predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
