Five arrested in lift collapse accident

Chennai, Jun 24 (UNI) Five people were arrested in connection with yesterday's lift collapse incident during a film shoot in which two people were killed.

Police sources said here Sundarrajan, in-charge of erecting the sets for the film and lift operator Murugan were arrested last evening.

After further inquiries with the injured Appanraj, who was undergoing treatment, police today arrested three more people.

The arrested were Suganandan, who had installed the equipment in the building, lift owner Sanyasi and fabricating contractor Mahendra Babu.

All the arrested were produced before a Magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

Two people were crushed to death and one grievously injured when the temporary lift installed to carry film equipment to the top floor of the 11-storeyed building collapsed, while crossing the fifth floor in the city yesterday.
