Centre failed to control price rise: BJP leader

Vijayawada, Jun 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh BJP President B Dattatreya today criticised the UPA Government at the Centre for ''failing'' to control price rise.

Talking to newspersons during a party meeting here, he claimed the Centre had also ''failed'' in ensuring food security and curbing terrorist activities in the country.

Pointing out that the Kerala and Tamil Nadu Governments were providing Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,000 respectively as Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy, he urged the state government to enhance the MSP for paddy to Rs 1,000.

Mr Dattatreya said the party's State Working Committee Meeting would be held at Karimnagar on June 28 - 29. The committee would discuss the current political situation and chalk out an action plan to strengthen the party in the state. Party senior leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, Prakash Javedkar and Bangaru Lakshman would attend the two-day meeting.

On the Centre's farm loan waiver scheme, he claimed that only 20 per cent of the farmers had benefitted by the scheme. Tenant farmers were not covered under the scheme, he alleged.

To a question on Mr T Devendar Goud Quitting the TDP, he said this showed the crisis within the TDP and his resignation would have an impact on the ruling Congress in the state.
