Accused of 2002 communal violence held

Rajkot, Jun 24 (UNI) An accused of 2002 communal violence after Godhra carnage has been arrested by Special Operation Group (SOG) staff from Khanpar-Nesada village in Tankara taluka of the district.

Acting on a tip-off, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) R D Jadjea and his team arrested Shankar Vajesinh Pataya yesterday from a farm at the village, where he was working as a farm-labour.

Shankar was involved in arson, loot and rioting in Dhanpur of Dahod in communal violence after Godhra carnage in 2002. Since then he was absconding and his name was listed in police wanted list.

On receipt of information that Shankar was hiding in the village, the SOG group swung into action and arrested him from the place. Later, accused was handed over to Dhanpur Police, the police said.
