Two police officials suspended after clash in AP

Kakinade, Jun 22: One person was killed and nine others, including a policeman, were injured in a clash between two communities at Pottilanka village in Kadiyam Mandal last night, police today said.

Following the incident sub-Inspector G Satvanaravana of Kadiyam police station and Inspector L Ankaiah of Rajahmundry rural circle were suspended for dereliction of duty and failure to assess the severity of situation.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Superintendent of police Y Nagi Reddy said he, along with another SP A V Ranganatham, were camping at the village since last night.

A verbal dual between two youths of rival communities at a hotel a couple of days back led to friction between the two communities. It was aggravated when a youth of one community allegedly kissed a girl of rival community at a bus stop in broad daylight yesterday.

The incident created tension in the village.

UNI
