NABARD to organise five-day training
Shillong, June 22 (UNI) The NABARD, in association with the West Garo Hills district administration, will organise a five-day training camp on fruit processing mainly for jackfruit at Tura, the date for which would be finalised soon.
Official sources said here today that cultivation of jackfruit was widespread in the entire Northeastern region but the growers failed to get remunerative prices due to lack of proper fruit processing facilities.
Two experts from the college of horticulture, Trichur, Kerala, are likely to come to train farmers in transfer of technology.
Selected trainees from the three districts of Garo Hills will be imparted the training. After successful completion of the training, they will be encouraged to set up their own jackfruit processing units.
Once the growers are given training, it would help reduce the wastage of the fruit as well help them earn remunerative prices.
