Former JNU leader appointed Child Labour panel Vice-Chairman
New Delhi, Jun 22 (UNI) Former student leader from Karnataka Syed Naseer Hussain has been appointed as Vice-Chairperson of the Central Advisory Board for Child Labour which has the task of implementing the existing legislation besides suggesting legislative measures for welfare of working children in the country.
Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes is the Chairman of the 45 member Board while the Secretary Labour and Employment Ministry is the first Vice-Chairman and Dr Hussain will be the other Vice Chairperson. The Board will also have two nominated MPs on the panel and host of senior officials functioning as members.
The Board can review progress of various welfare measures for working children and recommend the industries and areas where there should be progressive elimination of child labour.
Dr Naseer Hussain, a youth leader and student activist in Jawahar Lal Nehru University hails from Bellary, the home state of the Union Minister for Labour.
The Board can meet when required by the Chairman at places and in times and regarding the functions of the Board. The last reconsituttion of the Board was in June 2005, a release said.
