Orissa plans flood control system on major rivers
Bhubaneswar, Jan 21 (UNI) The Orissa government is chalking out a detail report to control floods in five river systems of the state.
Revenue Minister Manmohan Samal today said the Water Resources Department was preparing the report which would be submitted to the house committee on Natural disaster soon.
The proposed project would not only control the flood situation but also generate power and provide irrigation to land.
The river system on which the report was being prepared were-Subararekha, Baitarani, Rushikulya, Brahamani and Vansdhara.
After the report was received the house committee would submit the report to the Prime Minister,Union Home Minister and the National Natural Calamity Relief Committee Chairman and seek assistance for its execution.
The Revenue Minister said the state government had already submitted a Rs 400 crore project to control flood permanently in Mahanadi river system to the Union government three years back.
''The Union government is examining the report and we hope that it would soon be approved,'' he said.
