KSGA urges government to implement advisory price for sugar
Mysore, Jun 21 (UNI) Karnataka Sugarcane Growers Association urged the state government to implement the state advistory price for the sugarcane for this year in the state.
Speaking to newsmen Association President Kurabur Shantakumar said that the association also demanded that all the sugar companies in the state to install the electronic weighing mechines for the coming seasons from next month. It also urged the various sugar companies to settle the balance subsidy amount of Rs 160 per tonne as announced by the state government.
Stating that the the Union Government's decision as per the agriculture commission to fix the price for the paddy Rs 850 per quintal was not sufficent and it should fix the price at least Rs 1,050 per quintal, he said.
He allaged that the state government had failed to stop the farmer's suicides following the non-availability of the fertilisers and seeds in time. It should take serious steps to supply fertilisers and seeds to the farmers in the state otherwise the farmers would launch a state wide agitation against the government, he added.
A state level meeting of farmers would be convened on June 24 at Bangalore in which various problems would be discussed. Former Agricultural Price Fixation Commission Chairman T Haq and National Farmers Federation General Secretary Changal Reddy and others are to participate in the meeting.
