Hospital staff agitate against ransack

Barrackpore, Jun 21 (UNI) The medical and para-medical staff of Dr B N Bose Sub-divisional Hospital in North 24 Pargana district today staged demonstrations in front of the OPD against the alleged attack on the hospital staff.

The hospital sources alleged that following the death of a patient at the hospital, some of his relatives had ransacked public property and manhandled the nursing staff .

Official sources said the hospital authorities had lodged an FIR at Titagarh police station against three persons for allegedly assaulting the staff and ransacking the hospital.

''Trouble started following the death of one Pannalal Mahajan (59) in the hospital premises while the patient was being taken to the male ward on the first floor after formal admission,'' sources informed.

The patient's relatives, however, accused the hospital authorities of negligence and alleged that the emergency department delayed the treatment by at least an hour.

The hospital authorities admitted that the patient, who had been suffering from cardiac and other ailments, expired after admission, but refuted the allegation of any negligence on the part of the emergency department.

The matter was being investigated though no one was arrested so far, police said.
