Govt should withdraw controversial text book : Chennithala
Kochi, Jun 21 (UNI) Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Ramesh Chennithala today demanded that the Left Democratic Front government in the state immediately withdraw the controversial seventh standard Social Studies text book.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Chennithala alleged that the government was 'hatching a conspiracy' to propogate Communist ideology and distort the history of the country.
The government should immediately remove the text book concerned and initiate talks with the protesting Kerala Students Union (KSU) and Youth Congress workers, he added.
''The demands of the KSU and Youth Congress were just and the Government should try to meet them rather than be at loggerheads,'' he noted.
Coming down heavily on Education Minister M A Baby, Mr Chennithala said the State's education sector was in shambles and held the Minister responsible for the confusions in self-financing high education law and Kerala Education Rules amendments.
Alleging that the P A Mohammed committee on self-financing higher education had become a rubber stamp of the Government, the KPCC Chief sought the resignation of Justice Mohammed or to disband the Committee.
''The powers of the Committee had been eroded and it was working as per the directions of the government,'' he added.
