EC reviews electoral rolls preparation through video conferencing
New Delhi, Jun 21 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) reviewed the process of preparation of electoral rolls in nine states through video conference here yesterday with the Chief Electoral Officers of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Punjab.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami and Election Commissioner Dr S Y Quraishi held this review from the Election Commission headquarters.
At the conference, the EC reviewed the status of the preparation of electoral roll in terms of the newly delimited constituencies and the status of the publication of those rolls as photo electoral rolls.
The Commission emphasised that the schedule given earlier for the preparation of newly delimited rolls, rationalization of polling stations, Electoral Photo Identification Card (EPIC) maximization and publication of photo electoral roll should be adhered to without any deviation. The Commission found the progress made by these states to be satisfactory.
At the video conference, the CEOs assured the Commission that the publication of photo electoral roll as per as newly delimited constituencies would be done within the prescribed time limit till August 31.
