UAV 'Nishant' successfully flight tested

Bangalore, Jun 20 (UNI) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) ''Nishant' jointly developed by DRDO for Indian Army was successfully flight tested near Kolar, about 70 km from here today.

The state-of-the-art UAV was developed by city-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), jointly with DEAL, Dehradun, RDE(E), Pune and ADRDE, Agra.

Nishant is one of the few UAVs in the world in its weight class capable of 'catapult launch' and can be recovered by using parachute. This eliminated the need for runway as in the case of conventional take off and landing with wheels, a DRDO release said.

The UAV had completed the development Phase and User trials. The present flight tests were Pre Confirmation Trials before induction into Services.

The flight tests were witnessed by user representatives, while senior scientists of DRDO participated in the flight trials.
