Lashkar top commander among four militants killed in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jun 20 (UNI) Four militants including a top commander of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in the Kashmir valley overnight, a police spokesman said today.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in the house of one Ghulam Mohiuddin Lone at Khaipora, Qaziabad in the frontier district of Kupwara, police and security forces launched a joint operation early this morning, he said.
When the security forces were sealing the particular area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons. The forces retaliated and in the fierce clash one militant was killed.
The slain militant was identified as Mehboob Ahmad Afraidi alias Jugnu alias Faisal, son of Moulvi Talib Afraidi, resident of Check 879 Anjum Farmali, Pakistan.
One AK rifle, three magazines and one grenade were also recovered from the slain militant, a self styled divisional commander of LeT.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara, Vijay Kumar said a search operation was launched by police and Army at Sona Pindi area yesterday in the afternoon following a tip off about the presence of militants.
He said when the security forces were about to storm a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire. The fire was returned and In the fierce clash, between security forces and militants, which continued till late in the evening, three militants were killed.
Three AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
